Bulgaria

Greece and Crete done , we headed north towards Bulgaria. Our plan was to go through Bulgaria, Romania and Hungary to get back to Northern Italy by the autumn. It was mid June 2017 when we crossed the border into Bulgaria and it was our first foray in this part of the world. What greeted us were the most friendly of people, a backdrop of the Rhodope mountains with its lakes, ski resorts and pretty villages and as one of the poorest EU countries and road system that took some navigating. We loved it.
